PAS Youth Concert Protest Is Good for Malays

Entertainment is the major tool of UMNO for many reasons. The main reason is to keep Malays from thinking about politics and to prevent Malays from developing sensitivity towards how the government is being run and how their money is being spent. I mean, if u spend your days and night talking about Siti Nurhaliza, or why Nurul and Ijai divorced, where can u find time to discuss the effects of corruption on the country’s economy, or should the Malays change their government or not.

And it worked. In 2008, Malays, on the average, voted opposition only at 40%. The other 60% went to Barisan Nasional. The entertainment tool was instrumental in keeping the Malays intoxicated with trivial and insignificant issues. The real issues evaded the Malays and entertainment seems to provide the Malays with fictitious feeling of content and satisfaction.

And here is the rest of

Pas Youth Protest of Concert Should Be Supported
I know the first impression of my article will be “it’s expected for Tulang Besi to support Pas Youth because he’s an islamist”. But I beg u to read my reasoning first before you draw your conclusion.

My support stems from the fact that Malays are too much indulged in “entertainment”. Don’t take my word for it, just turn on your Astro and compare the contents of “Malay” channels, as compared to other channels. I mean, at least with the English channel, we have the news channel, the documentaries like Discovery channels, there’s even a BBC Food channel and also the sports channel.

But when it comes to Malay channels, nothing but mindless and empty entertainment. Day in, day out. It is still not too far away in our memory when Siti Nurhaliza’s wedding was televised live on national TV. At the same time, ASTRO didn’t want to concede ratings, organized an interview with Mawi and Ina specifically discussing the break-up of Mawi’s engagement with Ina.

I mean, what do I care about Mawi’s breakup with Ina. It’s a family affair and let them settle it among their respective families. As for Siti Nurhaliza, I waited for any of the Women’s rights group to condemn the wedding ceremony, but sadly none dared to open their mouth. I mean, Siti Nurhaliza married another woman’s husband. She broke up a happy family. Now, is that something we should condone, even more, televised on national TV.

Malays level of maturity as a nation is also hampered deliberately using the entertainment tool. As long as Malays are intoxicated, they will forever remain uncritical and not sensitive. This will make UMNO’s propaganda easier to administer upon the Malays.

In short, it’s all mind control strategy by UMNO, and entertainment is one of the most important tool. It creates apathy among the Malays faster than any other programs. And apathy is the best ally to dictators, as someone use to say.

At the same time, Malaysian artistes too suffer frm economic deprevation. Many of their work are easily pirated and they struggle to make ends meet. Their only sure source of income is concerts and it seems Malaysian artiste are forced to do concerts their whole life just to survive.

I had the pleasure of having a conversation with ITO, the lead singer of Blues Gang. He told me that he was once warned by somebody high in the Information Ministry not to highlight the problem of piracy. Blues Gang right now are still performing in clubs and functions despite having an evergreen hit “Apo Nak Dikato” because their handiwork have been pirated to the maximum. They gain very little from their work and somebody high in the government are protecting the pirates. Ito was that close from being banned by RTM.

In conclusion, both the Malays and the artistes in Malaysia are being kicked in the stomach by UMNO and Barisan Nasional. UMNO gets support from the Malays based from the artiste’s activities and they also get some form of material benefits from piracy (based on my conversation with Ito).

In Malaysia, everything that happens, UMNO will be the final beneficiary, it seems.

ok ! I like your reasoning....

like the Astro channels you were talking about , you will also notice the headlines in Malay and English papers differ

English papers gives importance to national issues, Malay ones to mainly racial issues......did you notice ?

why ?

just look at the US of A ;)

Dear Jed Yoong,

Other countries use entertainment to dumb down their population. But other countries like USA already are enjoying a time in the sun.

We are still in the gutter, and entertainment will keep us in the gutter for a long time

Saya hanya mahu Pemuda Pas ubah cara pendekatannya.

Tulang Besi,

You're absolutely right.

Look, it's simple. The majority of Malay's mind is not critical. They treat their mind like it's fragile thing. They hate to think heavy things.

Example of Malay areas:

- Alamanda, how big is MPH bookstore compared to Mid Valley?
- How many big bookstore in Shah Alam?
- What kind of books available at these bookstores?

The trouble is, Malay is not just being exploited by the politicians, they love it.

Bro TB,
I agree with your reasoning on Malay entertainment in general but we should concerntrate on ALL our local content wether it's entertainment or educational, it's all rubbish, meant to make our viewers craves for foreign contents I suspected.

Our local contents Dumbs down everyone. Maybe one of the contributing factor is: it's not open to foreign players and media freedom is still tightly-controlled. No competition means 'safe' i.e. dumb programmes getting air time.

unbelievably absurd! totally ridiculous!

with this kind of mentality, UMNO doesn't have to worry or do anything to outdo PAS. yes, carry on with this kind of writing iron-bone. it would be for sure that PAS would get nowhere near what it had achieved in GE 2008.

damn it, i already felt stupid by just being here in this blog of yours which is so full of morons.

do me a favor will ya, don't delete this comment. thanks in advance for that.

Bro Asli,

I like your point on the size of bookstore. I remember living in Shah Alam for 3 years and the biggest bookstore was at Kompleks Wilayah.

ANd it seems after 15 years, it is still the biggest bookstore in Shah Alam.

Malays just dont like to read, write or even think. They rather have the ruling party to think for them.

And what they like is just to be intoxicated by entertainment so they can forger their woes.

They can't solve their problems because they're not the thinking type.

And it suits UMNO very well. As long as Malays are not thinking people, they will remain easy prey for UMNO.

good iron-bone. thanks for not deleting my comment. let me add a bit more here;

PAS has this sick compulsive behavior of banning anything that they (for some really stupid and weird reasons) consider decadent culture. In the early 90's they banned MakYong. And then, the sad part was their hardcore 'intellectual', would then went all the way try to intellectualized their irrational policies in order to justify their action. in the makyong case they had Dr Azly Rahman doing that unbelievable moronic task. is that not stupidity???

this was why they banned makyong. very intersresting article.

pertamanya..

Aku rasa kebanyakan ahli PAS ni bukan tahu cara nak sebarkan dakwah melalui kesenian..tau main banned je..apa dia ingat semua orang ni boleh dengar nasyid je ke?

kedua,

aku cadangkan PAS ni belajar camne Sunan Kalijaga menyebarkan dakwah melalui ketukan gamelan dan pakaian jawanya.buat berperingkat..bukan main hentam keromo je.

ketiga,

orang2 pas ni nak ikut budaya arab wahabi kot..contohnya ada kes yang aku tangok kat youtube..org2 wahabi ni naik ke pentas pastu pukul orang2 yang tengah berteater..apa kes?

keempat

kelima

bila dah tak reti dalam pendekatan kesenian, bila jadi kes konsert tau nak bantah, bangkang pastu bagi alternatif nasyid.brape orng sangatlah nk dgr nasyid ni?muzik tu universal..kena ingat al-kindi yang cipta teori lagu..ahli falsafah islam gak yang cipta gitar..

kot ye pun..klu nak ubah tu..bagila berperingkat..suruhla dia pakai baju yang sopan sikit..contoh :nasihat pd ella tentang garis panduan pakaian ke..klu dia x pkai tudung..jgnla nak paksa dia pakai tudung dulu...slow2

keenam

nak tanya...kenapa dalam HARAKAH pun macam UTUSAN?takde pun berita yang kritik parti PAS sendiri?apa..parti PAS tu murni sangat ke?

The lack of similar channels like Discovery, History Channel, Nat Geo and the like in Malay does not signify some kind of intent by UMNO to keep the Malays dumb. It's not like the Malays can't watch those channels.

There are also the E! channel, and MTV, [V], AXN ... these are also mind-numbing channels. In English.

The fascination with Siti Nurhaliza is nothing -- NOTHING -- compared to the Western world's fascination with Britney Spears.

You said that Siti married another woman's husband, breaking up a happy family along the way. That's a major assumption on your part. Neither you nor I know that the marriage was a happy one still when Siti met that Dato' fler.

Having said that, your leaps of logic do seem to be rather astounding to me.

If I read your post correctly, you surmised that UMNO uses entertainment to keep Malays from thinking about politics and that explains why 60% of them voted for BN in the last elections.

Wow ... It. Makes. No. Sense.

MY REPLY: I think they banned Mak Yong because Mak Yong uses semi naked women in their performances.

Furthermore, it still promotes senseless mumbo jumbo that has no basis in modern world.

In fact, of all people, it's the modernists that should support this ban of mumbo jumbo culture.

Mak Yong is a Kelantanese culture. WHen it was banned, it was supported by the Kelantanese.

It's only non kelantanese that's making a lot of unneccesary noises.

after a few good hard knocks in nik aziz's and anuar tan's heads they could finally think - mak yong is allowed now. you can cry all you want now...kah...kah...kah

anyway, i must correct your first sentence in your reply to me in which you started with; "I think ......"

well sorry dude, you've made a mistake. people like you never think. you just follow whatever your guru says.

oh wait a minute, maybe there's an assignment ready for you. it just out, surat pekeliling by MPKB states that women are not allowed to put on lipstick and wear high heels.the fine is up to RM500. now why don't you hook up with dr azly and try to 'intellectualize' and justify this new ridiculous regulation.

good luck tulang-besi. post it to Malaysia-Today when you guys are ready with it. visitors at M-T sure need a good laugh. and i bet it would be a joke of the century.

c'mon tb, don't dissapoint us.

MY REPLY: So, the only way we can appear to you as thinking is when we start saying bad things about our religion, like how u potray religion in your blog?

Liberal mentality is typical. If you don't criticize religion, you're not thinking.

Well, i read your blog, and there's not much thinking done by you though. That's why your blog entries, as far as religion is concerned, is a waste of time reading.

For one, none of your argument is based on facts, even the people you quoted.

Makes me wonder if Naruto knows how to think. I mean, there is a difference between thinking and hallucinating.

Your blog tells me that it is the latter.

NAruto,

what's wrong with banning lipstick and high heels?

It's part of the dress code.

In short, you basically hate anything that is related to religion.

That's your problem. Please go and get help.

Tulang Besi said...

On the lipstick and high heels issue, Naruto.

Finally, someone is taking positive steps towards eradicating exploitation of women.

When women work, they should be paid for the amount of work they do, not for exposing their bodies.

If my daughters or sisters are working and this dress code is passed, i shall be very happy.

I think the Kelantanese knows about the wisdom of these rules. That’s why they voted for PAS over and over again.

let me tell you this tulang besi and please listen carefull;

fact is, lipstic had been widely used in the west asia (middle-east) since ancient time.

it was part of their culture. it can be traced back as far as 5000 yrs ago in the ancient city of Ur near Babylon. widely used by the ancient egyptians. infact they already had fish scale put into lipstic during the cleoptra era.

Early cosmetologist was Abu Qasim Zahrawi, a physician in the 9th century islamic golden age. all these modern day pressed mould deodarant, liptics originated from him.

do you know when did all these sickness of banning lipstic started? from where all these ideas originated??

well, during europe renaissance,Abu Qasim cosmetology also made its way into the west. By 1600 lipstic had gained its popularity.

Then came this bonehead pastor Thomas Hall in 1653 England , who led a movement proclaiming that painting of faces was the ‘Devil’s Work’.

In 1700's it was said that women who wore lipstic and seduced men into marriage could be tried as witches.

now i don't want to go into details the connection between holy scriptures, narrations, traditions and all that. because you'd already set your mind and would choose not to believe no matter how much solid evidence there in.

but one thing for sure is this, you, your PAS ulama and that bonehead pastor - are similar but not the same. LOL,LOL
