Great News, Good News and Bad News from Muktamar PAS

A brief explanation on the recent PAS Muktamar in Ipoh for our convinient reading and reference.

The Muktamar PAS has ended. Never has a Muktamar PAS been so crucial and has the capability to chart the direction of Malaysia’s political direction. Running up to the muktamar, there was talk of PAS leaving Pakatan Rakyat, that PAS will chart a different direction along with UMNO and BN, that PAS will decide not to support Anwar Ibrahim in his bid to reenter the Malaysian Parliament, that PAS might betray the mandate given to them by Malaysians and many more.

However, all the possible bad results did not materialize. The great news is that PAS President in his policy speech has:

  1. Reiterated their commitment to Pakatan Rakyat in unequivocal tone.
  2. Tuan Guru President has reiterated that all of the accusation against Anwar is a lie for the first time since the issue was created by UMNO.
  3. The President has reiterated his stand that he will not rescue a sinking ship name called USS UMNO
  4. Tuan Guru is also committed to the power sharing formula that is being practiced in all Pakatan States
  5. PAS has reiterated their hold on Islam while not betraying the mandate given to them.
  6. PAS will take pro active steps to strengthen Pakatan Rakyat
  7. PAS will actively campaign for Anwar Ibrahim in Permatang Pauh to ensure a great victory
  8. PAS proposed a Majlis Menteri-Menteri Besar to solve all existing problems with regards to Pakatan Rakyat’s partnership in states ruled by Pakatan Rakyat
  9. PAS members and delegates overwhelmingly reject the idea of cooperating with UMNO, let alone resurrecting it.
  10. Tok Guru Nik Aziz has instructed PAS to strengthen Pakatan Rakyat

The good news are:

  1. For this round, UMNO has failed to entice PAS members from supporting the idea or a PAS-UMNO alignment
  2. The animosity towards Anwar Ibrahim displayed by the President coming into the Muktamar has subsided and has a potential of disappearing.

The bad news is:

  1. There still exists elements that is actively trying to sow discord about Pakatan Rakyat within PAS. Namely PAS Terengganu. In fact, they openly tried to spread doubt about Anwar Ibrahim
  2. There is still impending problem that required immediate attention, i.e. position of PAS in Penang state government. If not addressed, the problem might translate into PAS leaving Pakatan Rakyat dan the break up of Pakatan Rakyat permenantly
  3. Attempts were made by the Selangor Perwakilan to sow doubt about Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor. But, thankfully the attempt was thwarted by the delegate from Shah Alam. In fact, the PAS Selangor speaker was caught lying through his teeth.
  4. There is still a lingering movement within PAS to bring PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat.

The way I see it, if the Pulau Pinang problem is addressed amicably, then the entire tension will subside significantly and the resistance will be limited to just Terengganu.

The Issue Of Shariah

I think non-Malays will have to accept sooner than later that the Shariah system is to stay. Therefore, I do not see any problem of Shariah implementation in it’s fullest, just so long as it will not be applied to Non Muslims in this country.

The Shariah is not a creation of PAS or any Muslims, it is part of Islam. To deny Shariah is to deny Muslims from practicing their religion. Non Muslim have the authority to change the Shariah. As it is now, we already have a parallel Shariah system with the Civil system.

I do agree that there are a few problems with consistency between the two system, but they are problems that can be solved with a solution that will make both Muslims and Non Muslims happy.

Other than the Shariah, I do not forsee any differences within Pakatan Rakyat that is so thorny as to lead to the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat.

After all, even the American government helped the Iraqi to estadblish a state running on Shariah and an Islamic Constitution.

For more information on Shariah, feel free to read this article :"Islamic Shariah offered the most liberal and humane law...".

Predictions on 10 Possibilities In Malaysia.
(Ramalan atas 10 Kemungkinan di Malaysia.)

1. Is it possible that DSAI wins the Permatang Pauh elections and become the next Chief Minister of Penang as a stepping stone to becoming Prime Minister?
(Mungkinkah DSAI memenangi pilihan raya Permatang Pauh dan menjadi Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang sebelum menjadi Perdana Menteri?)

2. Is it possible that DSAB resign as PM of Malaysia after the Permatang Pauh elections and handover to DSNTR earlier than expected?

3. Is it possible that UMNO and PKR will combine to form a new party?

4. Is it possible that all other component parties of BN without UMNO will combine with PKR to form a new party?

5. Is it possible that PKR and PAS will combine to form a new party?

6. Is it possible that PKR, DAP and HINDRAF will combine to form a new party?

7. Is it possible that TDM and all other Little Napoleons knows of these possibilities and are preparing to migrate?

8. Is it possible that DSAI is charged and disqualified as Member of Parliament after winning the Permatang Pauh election?

9. Is it possible that there will be another by election in Selangor or Perak?

10. Is it possible that there will be new religious parties formed besides PAS eg. Christian, Buddhist, Confucianism, Hindu, Bahai, Sikhism, Judaism or other beliefs?
(Mungkinkah akan tertubuhnya parti berugama baru selain PAS seperti Kristian, Buddha, Konfucius, Hindu, Bahai, Sikh, Yahudi atau lain-lain kepercayaan?)

"Great News, Good News and Bad News from Muktamar PAS"

The Great News? Tok Guru Nik Aziz is the Coolest Guy in Malaysia as far as I'm concerned.

The Good News? PAS has redeemed itself in the eyes of its grassroots and amongst Non-Muslim voters and supporters.

The Bad News? I HAVE YET TO RE-GAIN MY APPETITE FOR KEROPOK LEKOR!

Just for my clarification, is the cancellation of the Avril Lavigne concert a product of Shariah implementation or a policy change by the authorities towards
"Western" cultural influences ?

If it is a policy change towards "Western" culture, maybe we can have more South Asia (Bollywood) concerts or Canto-pop ones. As it stands, even performers from our neighbours in Indonesia tak boleh pass but I think maybe these "Eastern" cultures pun tak boleh.

The question really is - can Avril Lavigne hold a concert in KL if it is only for non-Muslims ? That should be okay, based on your precepts.

Anyway, for those Muslims who can afford it, they can always go to Singapore to watch ... so, macam mana ?

Don't get me wrong. I am just trying to envisage the future !

The good news of Nik Aziz affirming PAS's position in the coalition is not so good news when you still have two long-term intellectual hurdles to overcome:

1. PAS's call for an Islamic state and Syariah laws to be imposed on Muslims is basically an interpretation of religion and reflects the faith in the state/external legislation to govern a person's spiritual behaviour/condition. There are many God-fearing Muslims who know how to restrict their own desires without the need for a moral police force.

2. There can be no clear cut dichotomy between Muslims and non-Muslims when we handle issues regarding conversions and the social problems suffered by those families whose relative have converted.

Anyway, what about the rights of those Muslims who wish to watch Avril Lavign, Ella, or women who wish to dress well and look pretty, which is a Godly feminine desire? Is PAS's position on outer appearance and behaviour going to sit well with most Muslims? I doubt it.

...

Two Questions: before we take a utopian concept and apply it to this country in an idealistic endeavour,

a) do all Muslims living under Shariah laws in other nations feel that these laws are administered justly and

b) what kind of dispensation may we expect will be allowed (if any) for divergent thoughts/laws/practices in Muslim communities?

I thought the issue about PAS combining with umno is resolved?. I just wondering what is the purpose of this article whilst PKR is fighting in PP now? Does it bring any good?. Does it helps DSAI in PP?. For me better concentrate in attacking umno aka BN.
