We Blame the Chinese for Everything that is Wrong with Us

That’s right. The Chinese is the best excuse for average Malay to hide their failures and shortcomings. In fact, we do not have to think about success because should we fail in anything we can blame the Chinese.

For instance, we always see potential Malay businesses going belly up. We see soya sauce factory, shoe factory, linen factory, chili sauce factory owned by Malays having to be shut down. When asked the reason that is floated is that they are being sabotaged by Chinese suppliers who refuse to supply them the materials they need to continue production.

I recalled in the early days of Harakah, UMNO did everything to stop all printers in Kuala Lumpur not to print Harakah. UMNO’s hope is that when there is no printer willing to do so, then HArakah will have to shut down completely.
So, what the Harakah people did was they carried with them a stack of cash and went looking for printers who are willing to do it. And they found a printing company owned by a Chinaman somewhere in Kepong. His business was not doing that well apparently.

So, the Harakah people went to his office and put the stack of cash on his desk. And told the Chinese printer that if he prints copies of Harakah, and willing to face all obstacles, they will ensure that the Chinaman be paid in cash before the printing of every issue of HArakah.

The Chinaman who owned the printing shop immediately agreed and the rest is history. According to my Harakah sources, the Chinaman is now a millionaire and has sold the printing company to a Malay consortium. Apparently, Harakah rescued him from the brink of bankruptcy and in turn made him a millionaire.

So, my point being, even in the most dire and dangerous circumstance, there will be a Chinese supplier willing to supply anything we want. The case of Harakah proves that there is no such thing as a Chinese Supplier conspiracy to sabotage Malay businesses.

The Real Story Behind The Closing Down of Malay Businesses

These Malay businesses are always behind on their payments despite getting their line of credit extended frequently. Since Chinese suppliers are not Santa Clauses, they have a limit to how much credit they can give.

And MOST MALAY business do not understand the value of operating business with cash as opposed to credit. It’s different with Chinese businesses where they will make sure that they repay their debts fast before thinking of expanding or doing anything else.

So, when the Chinese suppliers refuse to supply the Malay unless they make some payments on their outstanding debt, the Malay businesses usually simply collapse like a deck of cards. Bear in mind that Malays who venture into small and medium businesses are mostly UMNO supporters or members because they get easy access to government loans and financial support.

With their UMNO tradition of blaming the Chinese for everything that is wrong with this country, they started spreading false rumors about Chinese suppliers sabotaging their businesses because they are Malays.

I know of a Malay lady somewhere in Teluk Intan who runs a clothing store and the store has been operating for the last 20 years. Every month she will come down to KL near Jalan Hang Tuah to get her supply of clothes and every time the suppliers there do not mind extending her a line of credit. Why? Because she is always prompt on her payments. That lady proves there is no malice in the hearts of Chinese suppliers.

Why would Chinese Suppliers Sabotage Their Clients?

Most Malays are simple minded. They believe this crap the moment they hear it. They forgot that is more Malays owns business, more Malays would need supplies from the Chinese suppliers. The more Malays going into business, the more business the Chinese suppliers will be.

In fact, if there is a lot of Malay businessmen, the Chinese supplier might even convert into Islam so that people will continue getting their supplies especially those who are supplying food products.

It doesn’t make sense. The Chinese in this country will not go anywhere. They are interested to make money, not because they want to be rich so much, but to send their children to get quality educations overseas and some retirement funds. I always wonder why many Chinese families that I know had amssed a lot of wealth during their working years, but they retire into a very average life. It turns out that most of their wealth had gone to sending their children to Australia, Britain, America for quality tertiary education.

UMNO is Using The Same Excuse Too

See, when UMNO fails, the first thing they do is to blame the Chinese. They say that the Chinese will take over the country. They say that the Chinese will destroy the DEB and the Malays. They say that PAS has been used by the Chinese.

Hasan Ali said that his support for SELCAT is part of his quest to defend the rights of the Malays because Teng Chang Kim is Chinese. He forgets that for the last 2 elections, the Malays in Kapar voted Teng Chang Kim overwhelmingly. Teng has one of the highest majority in the Selangor DUN because he gets votes not just from Chinese and Indians, but also Malays.

UMNO’s actions is tantamount to the long list of failed Malay businessmen who do not know how to control their business’s finances. So, in order to hide their failures, they blame the Chinese for everything.

In fact, they’re the biggest losers of them all and they will fail in whatever the do. We talk about Dr Mahathir bin Muhammad Iskandar Kutty, being the most successful UMNO Prime Minister. Maybe, it’s because Dr Mahathir is not a Malay?

The actual obstacle to any business, be it Malay owned, Chinese owned, Indian owned, Iban Owned, Kadazan owned and whatnot is actually the big boys in the business. The big boys in the business are those who dominate the market in a certain industry. They have the potential to become bully boys when come to new entrants into the market. This is to protect their own neck from the new competitors.

Let say a new company wants to produce and market carbonated drinks in a market. The big boys will certainly have the ability to sabotage the new player in many ways. They can ask the bottle supplier or the labelling supplier not to do business with the new player. They can ask the retailers and wholesellers not to offer the products of the new player to customers. They can ask the transport companies not to do delivery business with the new player. This problem can happen to any new business; Malay owned, Chinese owned, Indian owned, Iban Owned, Kadazan owned and whatnot.

In the Malaysian context, the Chinese are normally blamed because most of the top management and employees at executive or managerial level from the big companies come from the Chinese ethnic background. The big companies are not Chinaman owned companies. The companies are actually big multinationals. Even so, Chinese owned companies are also affected by the policies of the big companies, such as Yeo Hiap Seng. But Yeo Hiap Seng is able to survive because the top management is smart. When no one has yet to see the Blue Ocean Strategy book is sold in bookstores throughout the country, Yeo Hiap Seng has already been penetrating the blue ocean of beverage market. The company has begun doing its business among retailers and coffee shops in small towns while the big companies sold their products in supermarkets.

The problem of perception that all the Chinese have to be blamed for business failures among Malay businesses can be mitigated when the big companies take more Malays to become their top management and employees at managerial and executive level. Taking two or three Malay Datuks into the board of directors won't serve the purpose. Apart from that, managerial skills are important. I wonder how many of the Malay business owners have read Blue Ocean Strategy? But reading the book alone is not enough. There are so many skills to develop when it comes to starting, sustaining and expanding a business.

The plight of malay businessman is well known and understood by all Malay for many years. That's why Tun Mahathir had written the book Malay Dilemma way back in the 70's. So it is nothing new for TB to reiterate these known facts.

The fact is that Tun Mahathir has spent is life time trying to change this attitude among Malays, it comes with mix success. A bunch of new age Malay were born. Unfortunately these bunch of ungrateful malays. Instead of helping to improve the Malay, they turn against the government blaming all their failures on UMNO whereas it is the policies of the UMNO lead government that enable them to achieve much of the benefit that made them what they are today.

You can write whatever that has yet to happen. But ask any singaporean Malay, did the chinese marginalized them or taking over their country? Can't we learn from our neighbouring country? And as a PAS member who suppose to uphold the Quran, what did Allah S.W.T. said about taking a disbeliever as the leader of Muslim?

BTW, please tell me, which Malay leader that blame the chinese for everything that is wrong with the Malay.

Tinta Hitam said...

I wlould like to make further comment.Even the Pakistani who came over here with nothing accept their clothes in their bag had been doing well in the carpet and furniture business. In some place even the chinese cannot competed with them.In no time they will control most of carpet and furniture business in Malaysia.

Some of malay business who had been doing quite well such as Lankhorst and Al Abrar had been slaughtered by UMNO during the height of reformasi days. What were their crime.Nothing accept those companies belong to DS Anwar Ibrahim allies. They didnt care much about one bangsa and one ugama.

You see UMNO is the main obstacles to malays development. We will go nowhere even in a hundred years if we still vote for them.So you malays, please get rid of UMNO if you want to become competitive

Anonymous said...

One of the obvious reason why malay businesses went bust was their mentality always wants to become a millionaire overnight.

This is true when the businesses set up are linked to umno politicians. Couple of years back, I knew four big licences were given to 4 malays for dealership from GLC.

One is related to Isa samad's son and the other is to son of the chairman of PNB.

The other two are my friend's company and person unknown to me. Only these two companies are still in operation while others already ceased operation.

So you see how they easily got the licenses and abandon the business when the business did not generate money fast.

The Malay saying "east west home's best; be it ever so humble there's no place like home (Trans : hujan emas di negeri orang, hujan batu di negeri sendiri, baik juga di negeri sendiri)" is strongly ingrained in the minds of most of the Malays. So its difficult for the Malays to go places.

An interesting story of the failure of a Malay business is the case of Sate Ria. The company had a good business location in Jalan Bukit Bintang. But in the 70's, one Chinese businessman wanted the spot so badly to locate his newly founded American fastfood franchise. He sought the help of a renowned Malay politician. Sate Ria was ousted from the spot and the rest is history. The Malay politician soon became a Prime Minister in the early eighties.

However, not all Chinese businessmen have belligerent attitude toward Malay businesses. There are those who develop synergy with their Malay counterparts in terms of supplier relationship. They are no Santa Claus, of course, but when the pay is good and on time, the deal is on.

This is new TB. Never heard a Malay blame the Chinese for their failure.

But I do hear a lot of Malay failures blame the Malay government . And these are mainly found in the opposition circle.
This is not surprising at all since that is the nature of their politicians of always blaming others.
Sendiri bogel pun tuduh Umno yang konspirasi.
Hahaha. Thanks TB for highlighting Opposition attitude.

The plight of Malays not doing well in business is they got lots of handouts from UMNO and so they tried all their ways to get allegiance towards UMNO. Until today, most Malays are still only interested in continuing being Ali Babas in business partnership with Chinese.

My ex-neighbour is a Malay and he grduated as lawyer from UITM and immediately was sought to be a sleeping partner of a law firm. Suddenly he is drving a big nice MB car and got another house nearby. Then he got another wife and before I know...his house is now up for lelong and he is nowhere to be found.
What happened? You may ask. Last I heard of is he spend too much time with his young wife and strted to withdraw more money from his firm and finally his partners have to leave him out. Just another case of a lazy guy who lives on others with his local degree.

Many many years back there was only one haulier in our country. I remember those days when I was in the shipping department our forwarding agents used to asked us to intervene personally to plead and begged those the haulier to shunt/pull the box to our factory as the materials were desperately needed.

At that time there was nil competition and this haulier could have sucessfully become the one of the top organisations and could have blocked any new entrants.

Tell me where is the Chinaman's role in reducing the influence of the sole monopolist at that time.

salam tb,

menyedari kelemahan ini maka orang-orang melayu cuba memasuki perniagaan menjual alat-alat ganti tetapi masih lagi gagal menyaingi kos perniagaan orang-orang cina.

wassalam.

Tulang Besi, maybe what you said is true, but that's not always what happened. Maybe you dont have enough experience to understand this issue.

My father has a business in pipe products, so he know well about some Chinese suppliers' tricks. Once, the supplier tries to put my father out of business by suddenly increase the price of the products, with intent my father's customers will leave my father business and go to a rival business, which is owned by a Chinese. The Chinese rival is contending to get contract which my father is having now. Luckily my father is not stupid and manage to solve the issue using among others, various suppliers rather than just depend on that one Chinese supplier.

Sabotages are part and parcel of business world.Be it from the chinese or anybody. So malay businessmen need to be innovative.

My schoolmate who run a big succesful sundry shop manage to outclass the chinese sundry shops.I dont know how he did it.It is his trade secret.Even the chinese cannot compete his.Mind you most of his supplies came from chinese..

Just to prove my point, lets analyzed what you wrote. I am asking you 2 simple questions:

1. What is the race of the bosses of Multi-Nationals whose unwritten policies was inspired by neighbouring country.

2. What is the race of people who rule this neighbouring country.

Instead, look at your answer

You have proven NOTHING. What we have seen from your own rantings are nothing but your own inability to understand simple english.

see, no answer except going back to claiming other unable to understand simple english.

When i highlight this glaring defiency, you instead accuse me of attacking you personally.

You have no ability to understand simple criticism and let alone debate big ideas.

Now you accuse other of not able to understand simple criticism and let alone debate big ideas.

Your ignorance probably stems from the fact that you've been indoctrinated by UMNO which emphasizes that their members be ignorant.

Accusing others of ignorance and being indoctrinate by UMNO. Not only that, you even accused UMNO of emphasizing that their members be ignorant. Where is your proof? Show me in UMNO constitution that says members should remain to be ignorant. Is this your way of politic? Tell me, if this accusation is Islamically right or what sort of Islam that you are practicing which allow you to accuse other without proof?

So, please go somewhere else. You are not welcome here, just like your UMNO friend sahabat kanan.

Is this the attitude of the so called transparency and free speech as promoted by your idol, Anwar Ibrahim when you ask people to go somewhere else when you fail to answer to their questions?

Sahabat Kanan was saught LYING on this blog. So dont use him as an example.

Again, accusing others of lying. What is your proof that he is lying?

Both of you cannot understand simple english.

English again. It seems that you are the only person who knows English.

Can't you readers see this guy TB? What he is good at? Nothing but accusing, accusing, accusing. From English to inability to deficiency to ignorance to indoctrination to lying. Are these not character assassination? But he can't answer the 2 simple questions that I asked (I even let him fill in the blank).

You said, why I keep on wanting to debate with you? The fact is I am not. You have not seen me posting much on your blog except lately. The simple reason is because you are one of the most obnoxious blogger that I ever met. Sometimes I just can't stand your lie and hypocrisy. I am responding merely to stop you from spreading more lie and hatred. If I cannot stop your, at least I want to let other readers known what sort of blogger this TB is.

Q1: Malay, Chinese and Indians

Q2: CHinese, Malay, Indians and Jews

Oh, before i forget, the Multinationals mostly have their HQ in Singapore, so they usually follow Singaporean practices in their administration here in Malaysia.

That's because i am just answering your question, Grand marquis.

Goes to show you lack all mental capacity to even ask the right questions.

No wonder you're so dumb.

The only cure for your dumbness is to stop supporting UMNO.

BTW, TB answer to my 2nd question is very interesting. In the future, if you're being ask:

"What is the race of people who rule Malaysia."

you should answer: Malay, Chinese, Indians, Sabahan, Sarawakian and Jews.

So u hindraf, your claimed that the Malay-ruled government is doing ethnic cleansing has been proven wrong.

And Chinese, don't ever say that this Malay-ruled government is discriminating you.

Whatever the race that will rule Malaysia, they must not resemble you, Grand Marquis.

Otherwise, the whole country will go to ruins

HAHAHAHAHA

Grand Marquis,
You are utterly confused. TB, I agree with you that UMNO wants Malays to be ignorant so they can brain-wash them further...like this fella here.

One of my close friend from Malacca, family owned a tiles shop running for donkey years. One day a Kelantanis female worker wanted to quit, she want to go back Kelantan get married and settle down.
My friend Lim recognized her as good and honest worker, he then talked to his brother to retain this lady.
The big Lim told Lim, Why not you go to Kelantan, go and seek around whether we can expand our business there? Lim went alone to Kelantan for a week, then back and report to Big Lim. They decided to establish a branch in KB, with the person in charge = The Kelantanis lady that wanted to quit! The lady never expect the Lim family will retained her and give her the opportunity to run the business in KB! Big Lim and Lim met her before leaving to Kelantan. "You worked here long enough, you mastered the know-how about the business, if you go back, you may need to start all over again, why not carry on with us and doing the tasks that you familiar with? The lady accepted the offer and with Lim help they setup the branch, the business went super well!!! The lady have many local contacts, with her honesty and trust, she managed to regain the capital invested just in four months of operation. This is the real story that Lim always share with his friends, he felt proud that they retained "her", the mover of the business in Kelantan with Win-Win-Win strategy. First Lim family expanded the business, second the lady stayed with the company and grew the business and lastly provide choices to Kelantanis with more competitive price of tiles.
In short, Lim trust his worker, the lady honored her duty and both worked toward common interest of each other...
Lim told me, we trust and empower people, this build through out years of working together, the respect earned is regardless of religion, culture or other differentiation. Business is about making each other beneficial, is not the zero sum game.
