MCA Should Stop Listening to Islamophobes Like Syed Akhbar Ali

Chua Soi Lek decided to hug Syed Akbar Ali’s theory thigthly. Malaysiakini reports:

According to “Malaysia and the Club of Doom” authored by Syed Akbar Ali, there are 57 Muslim-majority countries in the world and their common characteristics are:
1. They are less democratic because they emphasise more on religion.
2. Although these countries have Cabinets and elections but they also have a Council of Muslim Elders, which enjoys absolute power to override the decisions or policies made by the government.
3. Some of these countries are practicing absolute monarchy.
4. Since these countries formulate their policy using religion as basis, policies formulated will not be in par with the global development requirement. Thus the economic growth of these countries are always not ideal.
.
As a whole, Syed Akbar Ali’s (SAA) contention is the emphasis of religion being the inhibitor of progress in Muslim world.

My first question to SAA is:

Why are multinationals investing billions in countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman etc whom practices absolute monarchies and, in the case of Saudi, practices the Shariah laws 100%?

In fact, the most Islamic of these countries are the most economically advance Muslim countries in the world.

Muslim countries in Central Asia are the most backwards of all the Muslim countries. Yet, they use to b under Communist rule for the last 50 years or so and has no Islamic institutions nor any types of monarchies influenced by Islam.

Yet, they’re still backwards. By SAA’s logic, they should be most advance as they have managed to shed Islam from all their institutions.

By SAA’s logic, countries like Albania should be the most advance Muslim nation in the world. Many Muslims in Albania don’t even want to admit they are Muslims. 50 years under Communism had managed to erased most of the Islamic presence in countries like Albania or Central Asia states.

Simple facts like these are enough to render SAA’s book trash It’s a pity that the entire MCA organization has to lower their standards and base their understanding of Islam on trash writers like Syed Akhbar Ali.

(or maybe SAA had conveniently neglected to study the Central Asian states?)

SHARIAH IS ANOTHER NAME FOR RULE OF LAW
In fact, the shariah is the only thing preventing countries like Saudi Arabia turning into “totalitarianism”. Shariah has managed to ensure “rule of law” existing in countries such as Saudi Arabia. In fact, calling Saudi Arabia as “absolute monarchy” is a grave error.

But, to Islamophobes like SAA, he doesn’t care. He just marches on with his lies.
Please read this article from the New York Times entitled “Why Shariah?” by a Jewish gentleman by the name of Noah Feldman.

You will find that those who studies shariah objectively, will not put blame of Muslim’s backwardness due to shariah regardless what his/her religion or race is.
In short, Noah says:

a. The Shariah has been the instrument for maintaining the “rule of law” in the 1400 years of Islamic rule, whether it’s Caliphate or Sultanate.
b. To Muslims, the concept of “Rule of Law” and “Shariah” is interchangeable. This is because the Shariah has been instrumental in preventing power concentrated to the executive (in the form of Caliphate or Sultans)
c. Since Shariah, derived from Al Quran, As Sunnah, Ijma (Consensud) and Qiyas (allegory) cannot stand on it’s own, it requires a group of people in the society to “operate” it. This group of people has come to be known to us as Scholars, “Ulama” or “Mullah”.
d. Caliphates and Sultans gains their legitimacy as rulers and executives from the “Scholar”class. In return, the power to legislate and adjudicate are given to the “scholars” thus ensuring the rule of law.
e. The Caliphates are limited to executive decisions and regulations but they have control of the Army. However, since the “Ulama” has control in matters of laws, the balance of power is maintained.
f. In short, “rule of law” and “separation of powers” has been in practice in Islam for the last 1400 years.

CONCLUSION

Syed Akhbar Ali’s book is trash. He conveniently ignores glaring facts to support his Islamophobe agenda. I pity MCA for betting on someone like Syed Akhbar Ali. Ever heard of the saying “The blind leading the blind”?

To me, Syed Akhbar Ali's attempt to blame Islam for the backwardness of Muslims is not only factually wrong but also pathetic.

i read this news and first to know about SAA. I never knew him. I admit his explanation is very logical and rational, however he is showing one sided only. It is not balanced. I don't blame MCA for using him . In fact anyone including local msians also may accept. I went to website and read few articles. To my shock at right corner he states his favorite blogs. All are UMNO lovers. So this SAA is umno supporter as well.

To anyone who does not know who this SAA is, he is currently the most renowned anti hadith in the country. He has taken the role of Kassim Ahmad who is probably to old to carry on.

To TB, when you want to counter someone argument, make sure you get your fact right. Otherwise, you are like opening yourself for a K.O. punch. In the end, when you got bashed by them, people will think that Islam is weak because they think that you represent the voice of Islam.

When you say:
Why are multinationals investing billions in countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman etc whom practices absolute monarchies and, in the case of Saudi, practices the Shariah laws 100%?
In fact, the most Islamic of these countries are the most economically advance Muslim countries in the world.

well, we do not need to be a rocket scientist to counter this argument. Everybody knows the answers which consist of 3 letters.

So, before you try to be a champion to be the voice of Islam, make sure you got the right knowledge and right arguments. Lest you will create more fitnah instead of bringing any good.

Nigeria pun ada oil. Sierra Leone ada diamond. Timor Leste pun ada oil. Malaysia ada kelapa sawit. So what? Off course Singapore is strategically located. Again, so what?

Anyone wants to invest in Afghanistan or Somalia? Name me one advanced mono-theocratic nation on this planet and I will champion shariah law to be implemented not only on Muslims but everyone in Malaysia just to make things fair and to not be accused of discrimination.

Until then, its best to go secular to stop being overtaken by countries like Philipines or South Korea (yes were once ahead of them when we were still secular) and bring back the glory days when Malaysia Boleh!

I admire S.A.A. for the courage to tell the truth. I have read his book To digress a little. It was an eye opening experience. For a lot of people it's hard to admit the truth, i sincerely hope that Malaysian people will be honest with themselves. Saudia Arabia, other oil-rich nations get investors becouse they have oil. Because of oil they have the high standard of living. It is a blessing for them, otherwise those countries would be at the bottom.

Dear Malaysians, please, Be honest with yourselves. S.A.A. is telling the truth, Don't you want better government of your country?, Unfortunately, things S.A.A. wrote about muslim countries are true, please, Malaysians, be honest with youreselves. I salute S.A.A. for being brave, being honest, to tell the things he'd said. I hope Malaysian people will pay close attention, corruption, has been a friend of muslim countries, please, be Honest till the end. I believe that Malaysia will become a shining star in the South East Asia, just be open, democratic till the end, I love Malaysia, I want Her to prosper.

S.A.A. tells the truth. I hope that Malaysians will be honest with themselves and overcome their prejudices. There are still very many cases of corruption, unprofessional conduct on the part of the government employees. An example, Malaysia immigration. Unbelivabale, the level of ignorance, dirty, hostile attitude towards some visitors. Especially from the young officers....

I posted a comment on september 5, 2010. Just to digress a little, I'd like to share with you some of the experiences I've had with Malaysian immigration. I was entering Malaysia via Sultan Iskandar compleks. My passport was valid till 2020, I also had multiple entry visa for Singapore, valid till 2011. I spent 27 days in Singapore. All my documents were in order. Young Malay female officer asked if i had return ticket. I honestly didn't expect that. After i presented my return ticket, she sought the assistance of another officer regarding my air ticket. Apparently, she could not understand the information in the ticket. I believe one has to be very unprofessional, or f....g stupid not to be able to read the air ticket. Her second question was why i had spent so many days in Singapore?. My passport was in her hands, she could see that i had a valid multiple entry visa, valid until 2011, issued by Singapore High Commishion in Kuala Lumpur. Also the officer could see that i had Singapore endorsement stamped in my passport: permitted to enter and stay 30 days. It was none of her f.....g business why i spent so many days in Singapore. I was realy angry, yet i managed to stay calm, nevertheless she could see that i was upset with all the crappy questions she asked. I sincerely hope that authorities in Malaysia do something about these crappy, unprofessional immigration officers.

Thanks

Dear Sir and Madam,

We are Myanmar group in Malaysia; we lived in Malaysia over decade and always went to one of temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we were very sad and regreting with the committees of temple because they are using our monks in wrong conception of Buddhist teaching or Buddhist rules. We came to temple to help our monks and respected of our religion.

That temple is president of name:Yip Kum Fook, that our monks said and he is invited our monks from Myanmar to in charge of that temple but without pay anything to our monks, added he and his not respecting of our monks and sometime he ordered of his people to collected item such as paper, mineral water etc. without inform any words to our monks. In our religious believed we can’t take anything of holy place, if we done we are sin.

In pervious, our monk said the committees always asked money from him, when our monks gave RM20,000.00 in cash on 2001 to the committees, then committees keep silent, later committees make problem with our monk again and cancelled of our monk Visa permit to stayed in Malaysia, then our monks( Sadayaw Nandiya) go to Australia and our monk not come that temple at long time. “Yip Kom Fook gave our monk notebook computer for to cover of that amount of money our monk said”

Many local people around temple said, now no more people come to this temple because committees is always make problem and we are heard from local people said: Yip Kum Fook ordered of his people to put fire of Hindu temple at Taman Daya, Kepong because he needed that place to make his business about many years ago. “Everybody known what he done for Hindu temple at Taman Daya, Kepong”

Last time also he invited police to arrest the monks at holy place(temple) and locked the temple without afraid and shameful of people because he believed committee is big and has more authority, also his son always say to people: this temple is belonging of his father. “This temple donated from public, we are work hard for this temple”

This temple the committees always changed the monks, now they change the new monk to in charge of temple, this new monk also complaint the bad things of committees because committees also wait for donation box only, they without help anything to our monks. And committees controlled of our monks not to talk more or complaint more, our monks lived there as slaver and afraid of committees members.

In new building where remaining of Buddha statue marble; we have renovation of Buddha statue because that Buddha statue is put very low, we lift to highest the committees don’t like and unhappy. In our country, anyone be able to come temple to worship the Buddha but in Malaysia is different temple controlling by committees.

We hope everyone preserve of Buddhist teachings, and please safety of our monks, not see only money as this of temple. When we asked some of our people ( Myanmar) and local people, the committees are very low of idea because is very narrow mind and without education of religions. And committees will not disturbing of our monks, monks are like our father to take care of Buddhism and temple is like our place of resolving of our problem.

Recently, our monk(Sadayaw Ashin Indaka original from Madalay, Myanmar) has been staying in this temple also unhappy because the committees are not pay anythings to him, he is working in hardly to advise people and we also unhappy and very sad when heard the bad news from our monks. Sometime the committees people came and shouting in the temple without have any reason and done what they need to do, our monk said, the committees of this temple don’t have Buddhist teachings in their mind, may be next time Buddhist can destroy.

From Myanmar Buddhist group in Malaysia but many word complaint by local Buddhist community in Malaysia. If anyone receive of this message(email), please forward or send to your friends to protection Buddhism in Malaysia.

Dear Devotees,

Before I commence of my letter-writing toward. All of you, I would like to inform all of you that I am not satisfy with the lawyer, Dato YIP KUM FOOK (MCA chairman Gombak) due to his bad inspirit impressions because he sent an inspector to come to our SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST TEMPLE, 19 Jalan 38 Taman Desa Jaya Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to arrest me without any good reason, moreover, the lawyer, YIP KUM FOOK is not satisfy with Chief monk.

When the Chief monk had me to go to his Temple already and he went away and left me alone to take care until Chief monk come back to the Temple first and he also told me not to leave the Temple if any committees or the chairman want to chase me out, you don’t leave the Temple at all understand? Then I said, alright? To the chief monk! On the second Day, YIP KUM FOOK(MCA Man) came to our Temple and talk to me. He tired to make some inquiry from me and he asked me, where I come from? I told him that I came from Penang.

Then, I told to the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK, MCA Man) that the chief monk came to Penang and fetch me and invited me to accompany him to go to his temple in K.L. I am not aware that YIP KUM FOOK(MCA chairman Gombak) is not in a good terms with the chief monk, chief monk already in this way, YIP KUM FOOK try to create trouble with me unnecessary. That is why, the lawyer want to chase me out of the Temple. Then I asked the lawyer, why you want to chase me out of the temple? Moreover, the Temple is not belonging to you, UNDERSATAND? Then, I asked him, who are you? I don’t know you at all, you have no right to chase me or control me at all, UNDERSTAND? You are just like a layman only. Do you know the regulations that any the chairman or committee cannot control the monks and the Nuns at all, also UNDERSTAND?

I scolded him like that. Then the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK, MCA Man) is not satisfy with me and he told me that he will called the police to come to the Temple and arrest me. I told him to go ahead and called the police to come and arrest me. I won’t run away, I said to him like that. I have done nothing wrong toward you, why you want to arrest me? He said, he doesn’t like me to stay here. I asked him, why? Again. After this he got very angry with me, then he phoned up to the police and the police came to the Temple and told me to leave the Temple.

I told to the inspector of the again, I am sorry, I won’t leave the Temple because the chief monk had instructed me not to leave the Temple without his consent, UNDERSTAND? Then the inspector told me to leave, again. I told him I cannot leave the Temple because the Chief Monk hasn’t come back yet. This time, the inspector got very angry with me and he took out his handcuff and try to threaten me, then I immediately show off my hands for him to lock me up but he scare, then again, the inspector told me leave the Temple again but I still don’t want to leave the Temple.

Then I phoned up to the chief monk again and I told him that the inspector insisted want to arrest me, you better come back to settle the case for me. Last of all, I would like to inform all of you, that no committees or the chairman can control all the monks and Nuns at all also UNDERSTAND? “They are higher than the King,” also! So how can the laymen, the committees and the chairman to control them: – EVEN THE KING ALSO RESPECTED THE MONKS AND NUNS. Why the chairman doesn’t respect the monks and nuns? They will carry the sins later on, UNDERSTAND?
