The Punggol East By-Election result caught everybody by surprise. On paper, it looked like the seat if for the taking for PAP. So many factors are in favor of the PAP being the incumbent and all.
Yet, the PAP faltered.
Although so many have commented on the issues being raised during the election, the one issue that is common among all commentator is that Singaporeans do not feel secure about their future anymore.
In other words, they voted against PAP because they fear for their future and for their children future. They want PAP or the government to correct the mistake in their governance before the problems becomes terminal.
This is completely different with the Malaysian electorate. Average Malaysians do not care about their future. They never care what kind of life will their children live.
They vote according to their sentiment. If they feel that things are alright now then never mind how things will fold in a years time. They will continue to vote for BN come what may.
In other words, the future of this country is last on their mind. As long as they feel good today, the BN will get their vote.
The reason for so much "rebellion" against BN nowadays is due to the fact that average Malaysian is not feeling nice about living in Malaysia anymore. They feel that they are being squeeze out of their minds today due to high cost of living and stagnating wages coupled with low job availability.
What they do not realize is had they gotten rid of the BN 20 years ago, Malaysian would not be in the mess that we are in right now.
But, 20 years ago, average Malaysian were praising Barisan Nasional and Mahathir out of their wits. They never realized that they were being robbed blind by the same people they put their trust into.
What is happening now is just an indication that Malaysia is about to enter the 3rd World club. If it wasn't for our oil, we'd be just another failed African country.
Even now, very few Malaysian are concerned about the future of their children. All they want is lower prices and cheaper homes.
